About these formats
ASS
ASS (and its predecessor SSA) was designed for typesetting-quality subtitles in the anime fansub community. Each cue can specify font, size, primary/secondary/outline/shadow colours, alignment, layer, position, and per-syllable karaoke highlighting via {\k} tags. It is the only subtitle format that can express broadcast-grade typography and complex on-screen effects.

SRT was created for the SubRip ripper utility and is now the lingua franca of subtitling: every video player, every YouTube uploader, every editing suite reads it. Each cue is a numbered block of plain text bracketed by a start→end timestamp written as `HH:MM:SS,mmm`. Styling is generally limited to a few HTML-style tags (<i>, <b>, <font>).

What changes in this conversion
SRT has nowhere to put the following, so it is dropped:
- Styling & positioning — Named styles, layers and on-screen placement carried in the file itself.
Timing survives intact. SRT records milliseconds where ASS records centiseconds, so nothing is rounded away.
Questions
How do I convert ASS to SRT?
Paste your ASS into the input box, or open a file from your device. The converter runs in your browser and produces SRT instantly. Click Download to save it.
Is this free?
Yes — no signup, no credits, no upload. Conversion happens entirely on your device, so the file never leaves your browser.
Are timestamps preserved?
Yes. Timestamps round-trip from ASS into SRT with millisecond precision.
What if my ASS has styling or positioning?
Only what both formats can express survives a conversion. SRT keeps the timings and the text; formatting that SRT has no equivalent for is dropped rather than approximated.
