2× or 4×, with the upscaled long side capped at 4096 pixels. The cap is checked before you are charged: if 4× would go past it, the upload is refused with a message telling you to try 2× or a smaller source image, and no credits are spent.
Photo for realistic images and screenshots; Illustration / art for line art, anime and flat AI-generated pictures, where the photo model tends to invent texture that was never there. There is also an optional 'Enhance faces' pass (GFPGAN) that cleans up eyes and skin — useful on portraits, unnecessary elsewhere.
PNG, JPG or WebP up to 25 MB. The result is always a PNG, and transparency is preserved — the alpha channel is scaled separately and re-attached. The result card shows the finished pixel dimensions and a before/after slider.
Real-ESRGAN is the normal path, but the job never fails just because the neural model is unavailable: if it isn't installed, runs out of GPU memory or errors, the image falls back to a high-quality Lanczos resize. The result card names the backend that actually ran, so you can tell which one you got.
Yes — the image is uploaded and processed on our servers, so you need to be signed in. Each upscale spends credits (2 at the current price, shown live on the Upscale button), and a failed job refunds them automatically.
